Victoria’s Chinatown is the oldest surviving Chinatown in Canada. Before the Canadian Pacific Railway was completed, Victoria was a major port of entry for Chinese immigrants, and the neighbourhood became an important centre of Chinese Canadian community life.

Scope & context

The neighbourhood and its significance, not Chinese Canadian history as a whole (see CA-K281).
