The Queenston-Chippawa hydro-electric development on the Niagara River, planned by Ontario’s Hydro-Electric Power Commission to meet rising demand in Toronto and southwestern Ontario, was an early hydro-electric mega-project. It required construction equipment, power units and a power canal on a scale not seen before.
