Citizen.ca assembles and preserves Canadian knowledge for people, search engines, and AI agents. This policy guides the selection and review of every knowledge item.
Scope and inclusion criteria
Entries should explain a clear subject relevant to Canada: its history, geography, institutions, languages, cultures, communities, or shared and diverse identities. Use concise, neutral wording; distinguish factual claims from interpretations, and state dates, limits, and context. Indigenous perspectives and contested subjects require respectful attribution and appropriate context. Promotional material, unsupported claims, personal attacks, and unnecessary personal information are unsuitable.
Sources and photographs
Provide identifiable, accessible sources and the specific sections supporting each claim. Prefer relevant primary or authoritative institutional sources; assess credibility, independence, and conflicting evidence. A link alone is not verification. Every item requires a properly licensed photograph, creator credit, source, permissions or licence, and accurate contextual caption under the Photo Usage Policy.
Submitting an entry
Register or sign in to submit a title, brief summary, context, sources, and photograph with rights information. Optional long text appears when the record is opened and is reviewed with the summary. Each item has a contributor, defaulting to Citizen.ca if unspecified. Members must explicitly choose whether the contributor name is public. Required photographer credits remain public independently of that choice.
Private review and publication
Member entries and photographs remain private to their submitter and administrators until approval. An administrator reviews the exact submitted wording, sources, photo rights, attribution choices, and current state. Entries may be returned for correction, rejected, or approved for publication. Members cannot mark their own submissions verified or overwrite approved public records directly.
Verification and corrections
Verification against cited sources concerns source fidelity; it does not guarantee factual accuracy. Initial source checks are explicitly AI-assisted. Evidence-based factual challenges are assessed and, when credible and unresolved, visibly marked. Changes to evidence or long text invalidate source verification and dependent quiz approvals; quizzes relying on an actively challenged claim are withheld. See the Verification and Factual Accuracy Review Policy.
Rights and responsibility
Submit only material you may authorize for publication and public data distribution. Attribution does not itself establish ownership or licence permission. Member-owned text is not automatically licensed under CC BY 4.0; read the reuse terms. Follow the Privacy Policy and report concerns privately.
