More context
Canada Day commemorates Confederation; Remembrance Day honours military service and sacrifice. Victoria Day connects to the monarchy and the official celebration of the Sovereign’s birthday in Canada. The CRA’s 2026 calendar lists May 18, September 7 and October 12 for the three movable dates described here.
An observance’s date does not determine every worker’s holiday entitlement. Federal, provincial and territorial employment rules differ. The study purpose is to recognize the national dates and their meaning, not to give employment-law advice.
The red poppy recalls the service and sacrifice of Canadians in wars up to the present, not only one battle. Many Remembrance Day ceremonies observe silence at 11 a.m., recalling the Armistice of 11 November 1918.
