British Columbia forms the study guide’s West Coast region. Its capital is Victoria, while Vancouver is associated with the Pacific port and trade links to the Asia-Pacific region.

More context

The guide highlights forestry, fishing, mining and the Okanagan Valley’s fruit and wine production. It also describes the coast’s relatively temperate climate and the province’s cultural diversity, including Asian communities.

Victoria’s provincial-capital role and Vancouver’s commercial role should not be confused. British Columbia also includes mountain and interior environments with different climates from the coast. Historical fisheries and cannery sites illustrate part of the province’s economic heritage, not the entirety of its modern economy.
