More context
O Canada became the national anthem in 1980 and was first performed in Québec City in 1880. Its English and French texts are not literal translations. The 2018 English change made the wording gender neutral.
The royal anthem honours the Sovereign. Older study-guide printings may retain former English lyrics or refer to a Queen; consult Canadian Heritage’s current versions. This record identifies the songs and their roles without reproducing their lyrics.
