Our Lady of the Assumption Cathedral in Moncton, New Brunswick, built in 1939–1940 as the Monument of Remembrance, is a symbol of the achievements and resilience of Acadians. Its sculptures and stained glass tell Acadian history, and its construction rallied Acadians and their diaspora to build the first large-scale building commemorating them as a distinct people.

Scope & context

The cathedral and its meaning for Acadians, not Acadian history as a whole.
