Daniel David Palmer, raised in Port Perry, Ontario, was self-educated and interested in spiritualism and alternative medicine. Working as a magnetic healer in the United States, he promoted the theory that spinal alignment could restore health. Despite legal and financial setbacks, he wrote on chiropractic treatment and founded schools, and he is recognized as the founder of chiropractic.
