Kameshtashtan, a cultural landscape in northern Labrador, represents the profound importance of Nitassinan, the Innu homeland, to the Mushuau Innu and their way of life. Tied to oral histories, legends and spiritual meanings, it holds places of births and deaths and campsites at least 6,500 years old, and reflects the Mushuau Innu’s migratory life with Atiku, the caribou.

Scope & context

The cultural landscape as recognized in its designation, not all of Nitassinan (see also CA-K157).
