Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto, designed by Henry Adolph Engelhardt and opened in 1876, is an outstanding example of landscape design inspired by the European and American garden cemeteries of the 19th century. Its winding roads, trees and views frame monuments to many people prominent in local, provincial and national history.

Scope & context

The cemetery’s design, not the people buried there.
