St. Patrick’s Basilica in Montréal, built from 1843 to 1847 as the parish church of the city’s growing Irish population, is a fine example of French Gothic Revival architecture. Its clergy cared for Irish immigrants during an epidemic soon after it opened, and it remains the heart of Montréal’s Irish community.

Scope & context

The church and its community role, not Irish immigration as a whole (see CA-K316).
