Sporting examples in the citizenship guide

No recorded challenge is not proof of accuracy. A challenge under review is not a finding that the record is false.
The guide names Terry Fox, Rick Hansen, Wayne Gretzky, Donovan Bailey and Chantal Petitclerc as examples of Canadian sporting achievement and public contribution. It also connects James Naismith with basketball.

More context
Terry Fox’s 1980 Marathon of Hope raised awareness and funds for cancer research. Hansen’s worldwide wheelchair journey began in 1985 to support spinal-cord research. Gretzky is associated with ice hockey, Bailey with sprinting and Petitclerc with wheelchair racing and Paralympic achievement.
The guide recalls Paul Henderson’s decisive goal in the 1972 Canada–Soviet Summit Series. It distinguishes Canadian football and the CFL’s Grey Cup from hockey and the Stanley Cup. Canadian law recognizes ice hockey as the national winter sport and lacrosse as the national summer sport.
The Grey Cup was donated by Governor General Earl Grey in 1909. Other athletes illustrated in the guide include Phil Edwards, Mark Tewksbury and Catriona Le May Doan. Their sports and achievements should be distinguished from the two legally designated national sports.
